Abe & Erica
Falling in love with Abe was not at all what I had planned. After having my heart broken by my boyfriend of 2.5 years on the year anniversary of my great-grandmother's death (to those who know me, she raised me and was the most important person in my life), I expected to settle into a semi-depression, get over it, and eventually move on. About a month or so after, I started to get out of the house with my friends again, trying to get back into life, which had become nothing but work-home-work-home since I had already graduated from college. I was living alone in the house I grew up in, and I was incredibly lonely. No way to live at 21 years old, let me tell you. Anyway, I had met Abe previously at work - Publix, the never ending grapevine of relationships. I was a cake decorator, and he was a new meat cutter. Being the friendly person I am, I'd said hi to him before, but we had never really struck up much of a conversation before word got around that I was newly single. So, being the friendly person HE was, despite the fact that we barely knew one another, he reached out to me, and we started to talk on a daily basis. Some people might look at that as taking advantage of the situation, but Abe was just trying to be there for me, and it felt nice. We ended up at a party of a mutual friend one night after he invited me out to a group dinner at Chili's, and that's where things started taking shape. The same group of people decided that, the next night, we would go to the movies to see "Silent Hill". Of course, I took my best friend, Angel, (now Maid of Honor) as my "wingman". So, Abe is in front of me in line, and after he buys his ticket, he turns to me, smiling with his hand outstretched, and says, "Uh, the lady accidentally sold me two, so I guess you're in luck." I was surprised, amused, and completely floored...it had suddenly turned into a date! Smooth. Very smooth.
From there, it was like a dance. We started spending every day together (even after seeing each other at work!), and sooner than either of us expected, I asked him to move in! I couldn't help but feel a little off about it, and I was certainly afraid that he was a rebound...I didn't want either of us to get hurt. But we took it day by day, growing closer as time went on, learning about one another; our likes and dislikes, pet peeves, quirks. We've started new hobbies together, bought new appliances and furniture together, both purchased new vehicles together, redone our kitchen floor, put up a new fence, been on countless vacations, big and small. We've thoroughly enjoyed just 'being' together, and now, a little over four years later, after a beautiful proposal on the beaches of the Bahamas, we're excitedly planning our future together! It seems like we've pretty much already got the "being married" part down, and now it's time to make it official!
